Should I use a black steel pipe or a galvanized steel pipe as the legs of a desk I am building?
Here are the differences between the two types of steel pipe.
Black steel pipes have the strength that can make it ideal for transporting water and gas in rural and urban areas and for conduits that protect electrical wiring and for delivering high pressure steam and air. The oil and petroleum industries use black steel pipe for moving large quantities of oil through remote areas. This is beneficial, since black steel pipes require very little maintenance. Other uses for black steel pipes include gas distribution inside and outside homes, water wells and sewage systems. Black steel pipes are never used for transporting potable water.
The surface of galvanized steel tubes has hot dip or galvanized layer. Galvanization can increase corrosion resistance ability and extend the service life. Galvanized steel tubes are widely used not only in water, gas, oil and other general low pressure fluid pipelines, but also used in the petroleum industry, especially for offshore oil well tube and oil tube, chemical coking equipment, condensation cooler, coal run oil ex-changer tube, and trestle pile, the mine tunnel support frame tube, etc.
